Girls in Queens: Museum of the Moving Image

Teenz In The City's Girls Group had a great outing this weekend visiting The Museum of Moving Image in Astoria, Queens. The group was first introduced to Teenz In The City travel training worksheets and discussed the importance of completing them at home before they arrive to session each week in order to increase their understanding of the travel route of the day. According to our Moovit app, we were instructed the best route was to take the 4,5 or 6 train downtown to 59th street and transfer to the N or R train to Queens. While walking to the train station, we reviewed the difference between the express on local trains. The girls all voted on taking the 4 or 5 express train as it would be a quicker way to travel. During our ride on the R train, the train was stopped for over 10 minutes due to train traffic. This allowed for a meaningful conversation with the girls about flexibility and unexpected situations while traveling, as well as a friendly conversation and ice breaker games in order to get to know each other better. While at the museum, we had the opportunity to learn about the history, technique, and technology of film, television and digital media. Our members' favorite part of the museum was being able to record their own voices for various movie parts and hearing them live! We were impressed by the natural actresses in our group! After the museum, we headed down the street for a quick bite to fuel our hunger. It was a really fun outing and great to see new friendships forming among our group.
