Summer Session Five: Wrapping Up a Terrific Summer at Teenz!
During our final session of summer, we explored some traditional NYC staples. On Monday, we ventured all the way north to 190th Street to the Cloisters Museum. We checked out the historical tapestries and learned about European medieval architecture. We explored the gardens and played games in the park together. Members played a new game call the "Five Second Rule" in which they had to name various things when given a category. On Tuesday, we went up to the Museum of Natural History. Members worked together to decide on the travel route uptown and engaged in conversation about how they were feeling about returning to school in just a few short weeks. While in the museum, members voted on which exhibits they wanted to check out. After some conversation, we decided to check out the sea life and dinosaur exhibits. We used the museum's new app to get around and locate what we wanted to see. Members were resourceful and supportive of one another. On Wednesday, we attended our first Brooklyn Day of Fun in Williamsburg. We tried rainbow bagels, crif dogs and went to a classic vintage store. We even got to take the water taxi back to Manhattan. Members increased their awareness of traveling on the water taxi and discovered that it might be an even easier route than the subway depending on location. On Thursday, we went to the South Street Seaport and dined at a delicious Taco restaurant. Members decided to go on a boat ride at the seaport as well! Members voted to attend the Landmark Cruise on the Circle Line wrapping up our summer program on Friday. Some of our first Teenz members will move onto college and transition programs this fall, so we made sure to bid them farewell until they are home for break. Members discussed their feelings about the upcoming change and younger members listened carefully. We wish our departing members good luck as they embark on this next stage in life! Teenz will miss you!
