Summer Session Four: Building Teamwork
During this week, our members traveled to many exciting destinations. We kicked off the week taking part in a scavenger hunt in Grand Central, the Public Library and Bryant Park. Using our communication skills and problem-solving abilities, we were able to complete almost all the items on our list. We ended the day with some of our member riding the famous carousel in Bryant Park. On Tuesday, we ventured to Brookfield Place downtown at Fulton Street. We used our flexibility when being patient with others ordering different types of food and engaged in games while eating to get to know one another better. Members were encouraged to monitor their budgets as we shopped around the new Westfield Mall located in the new Fulton Center. On Wednesday, we pushed ourselves out of our comfort zone at Laser Tag at Chelsea Piers. Members divided into teams and had a friendly game of laser tag. We used our travel training skills to assess that taking the bus was the best route across town. Following our game, members played additional games, while staying within their budgets. We ended the afternoon by enjoying pizza together. On Thursday, our members' choice outing allowed members to vote on what they wanted to do. Members decided a Food Tour around the East Village would be a blast. Using teamwork, members were able to locate all the restaurants on their list, while also trying new foods along the way. Facilitators supported the members in located the restaurants when needed, but use of google maps and Moovit really helped most members achieve their goal of locating the restaurants on their own.
