Annual Outing to San Genaro Festival
Teenz In The City shared an awesome Sunday with a special outing to visit the 92nd annual feast of San Gennaro in Little Italy. Our members were so excited to be reunited with old friends, and welcome a few new members into the group. The group used Moovit.com to look up the travel directions to our destination, and traveled as a group via 6 train downtown to Canal Street. While on the subway, we reviewed safety protocols and travel training skills, such as referring to the electronic subway stop map while riding the train and paying attention to all announcements made by the train conductor to listen for train service updates and traffic. Upon arrival to Little Italy, the group discussed the history of Little Italy as a place that hundreds of thousands of Italian immigrants called their first home beginning in the early part of the 20th century. Together, our members explored the feast taking in the delicious smells and decided to sit down for an authentic Italian lunch. Over lunch, our group members engaged in reciprocal conversation catching up with old friends and getting to know our newer members. When the bill arrived, the group leader introduced the tip calculator app to our new members, and showed how to determine an appropriate tip and how to split the bill. After lunch, our members explored the festival and decided on some delicious fried oreos, zepolis, and home made Italian ices for dessert. It was a really fun session and a great start to the new school year!
