Annual Teenzgiving: Xavier Mission Meal Service
This past weekend, our members had the opportunity to give back to their community. The event this week was to volunteer at the Xavier Mission Church. The day began with all the members coming to our usual meetup spot. Once everyone arrived, the members and the leaders engaged in travel training and discussed the possible routes. After viewing all the options on Google Maps, the members decided to take the 6-train downtown to Union Square and then walk Northeast to 6th Ave and 15th Street. During the commute, the members engaged in friendly conversations about upcoming teenz events, Thanksgiving plans, colleges, TV shows, and school. When the members arrived at Xavier Mission, they were given aprons, gloves, and hairnets. The coordinators explained everyone’s roles and the members had opportunities to participate in many different jobs. The members took turns washing and drying trays, passing out food trays, and cleaning in the kitchen. The members were happy and eager to help out. After the event finished, it was time to head back to our usual meetup spot. During the walk back to the train, our members engaged with another and discussed their favorite job/part of such a humble day. When reaching the train, our independent members left independently, and the others went back with the leaders to our usual meetup spot. The members had an incredible time volunteering and helping the less fortunate. They can’t wait to go again next year!
